Poshan Maah celebrated by PGIMER to focus on malnourished children of Village Kheri, Panchkula

In the village of Kheri, Panchkula, the celebrations of Poshan Maah (Nutrition Month) were kick started in the first week of this month by Department of Community Medicine and School of Public Health, PGIMER,Chandigarh under the able guidance of Professor Dr Arun Kumar Aggarwal in collaboration with Department of Dietetics, PGIMER and ICDS programme officials.

Continuing with our previous efforts, second event was organized on 17th September where the mothers of all under five children of the village were called up in the Anganwadi centre of village Kheri, Haryana to carry on the message of appropriate nutrition. As per the rapid survey done by Dr Kanica Kaushal, Senior Resident and Dr Saraswathy, Junior Resident, under 5 population of Village Kheri is 127. Out of these, fourteenchildren are suffering from Moderate Acute Malnutrition and 2 from Severe Acute Malnutrition. Special focus was kept to assess these children and counsel the mothers to keep a track of their children’s weight and recipe’s for energy dense foods were shared with them. Female Multipurpose Health Worker, Mrs. Jagdeep Rana along with Anganwadi workers and ASHA workers of the village addressed an audience of 20 mothers regarding ideal practices to meet daily nutritional requirements of under 5 children. Mothers were advised to choose whole grains, a variety of vegetables and seasonal fruits and calcium rich foods in the diet. More activities are being planned in the village aiming towards the community based management of Malnutrition at Village Kheri, District Panchkula.
