Rishton Ka Chakravyuh, an unusual ‘spiteful’ story between a mother-daughter

Of all the gifts that life has to offer, a mother is greatest of them all,” – goes the powerful saying. That’s the importance of ‘mothers’, universally, no? While they say that ‘love’ begins and ends with motherhood, would you ever imagine a mother-daughter duo who never shares an emotion of ‘love’ between them?

Transpiring on STAR Plus, Rishton Ka Chakravyuh depicts the collision between the mother Satrupa and her daughter Anami. Set amidst the royal backdrop, the show focuses on a rich industrial family residing at the majestic Lal Mahal, which is home to many conspiracies. It depicts the story of Satrupa, an authoritative woman and her daughter Anami.

This interesting duet is always at a conflict. What has driven them apart? Is it a regular family feud that would heal within a short span of time? Or is it a permanent crack that has resulted due to a spiteful history? A mother-daughter bond which is considered godly how can it ever turn so grudging?

Essayed by the multi-faceted Narayani Shastri, Satrupa is a strong willed, successful business woman. The only child of her parents, she took responsibility of her business on her shoulders at a very young age. She has sacrificed a lot in her life to reach the status she is at today, where the strings of Lal Mahal completely lay in the hands of Satrupa.

On the other side of the acrimonious relationship is a confident, defiant and free spirited Anami, played by the multi-talented Mahima Makwana. The 17 year old hailing from Benaras is quite a rebel with a Dabangg attitude! She is her own boss and makes her own decisions. A storm of the house, she always speaks up for what is right and believes in writing her own destiny. Her unusual look is what makes her stand out in the entire Lal Mahal. The fearless Anami is known for her fierce one-liners that goes like – “Hamare baare mein jyada mat sochiye dimaag blast maar dega”, and something like – “Dil ganga aur dimaag mein panga”! Despite her unconventional nature, she is a well-mannered girl who believes in her principles and is a determined soul.

An excited Narayani who will be coming back to Star Plus post Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi says, “It’s like a home coming for me with this show.” Talking about the unique ‘relationship’ that she portrays on screen with this show, she says, “As kids we all have been very close to our mothers. Especially daughters, who during their growing up age confide in their mothers. Though this is the usual case, it is quite interesting to work in a show which instead portrays the battle of the mother-daughter duo.”

Mahima, who gets to portray a Dabangg character in the show, is much elated and says, “‘Zang lohe mein lagta hai mitti mein nahi, aur hamara iraada mitti ka hai!’ such are the powerful dialogues that I get to say on the show. I am really excited to play this powerful character on the show.” She further adds, “In real life I am extremely close to my mother and I respect her a lot. But on this show I have to depict otherwise. And in the show the kind of pique I have towards my mother, Satrupa is completely opposite to a normal mother daughter relationship. Well that’s the ‘give and take’ equation of hate that we share between us. What’s also interesting is the Lal Mahal is a bed of conspiracies, wonder what deep dark secrets will erupt from beneath!”

Apart from the unconventionally electrifying duo, the show boasts of a power-packed bunch of actors including Sangita Ghosh and Praneet Bhatt as antagonists. The show also features Anju Mahendru and Tom Alter in pivotal roles.

Viral hepatitis is a group of infectious diseases known as hepatitis A, B, C, D, and E, affects hundreds of millions of people worldwide, causing acute and chronic liver disease and killing close to 1.4 million people every year, mostly from hepatitis B and C.

Hepatitis B&C are blood borne viruses and most common modes of infection are through unsafe injection practices, IV drug abuse and the transfusion of unscreened blood and blood products.

In the early stage,Hepatitis B&C to a large extent is an asymptomatic disease. Hence in majority of cases patients are diagnosed at a very late stage leading to poor treatment outcome. Also due to lack of awareness on disease transmission there is a risk of these patients spreading the disease to others though various means.

Despite a low to moderate prevalence, India accounts for a significant share of global HBV and HCV infections due to the large population; As per estimate approximately 4 crore people are infected with HBV. Similarly it is estimated that 1.2 – 1.8 crore people are infected with HCV. Untreated chronic hepatitis B&C increases the risk of cirrhosis of liver and liver cancer.

Despite this high risk, the awareness and diagnosis of chronic Hepatitis B&C in India is abysmally low. As per estimate nearly 75% of those with chronic hepatitis C are unaware that they are infected.

Prof.  Ajay Duseja and Dr Sunil Taneja (PGIMER Hepatology) emphasized the need to educate people on Prevention, Treatment and Cure of Hepatitis and added that  the whole idea behind organizing such an event is , an attempt to reach out to maximum people !

Cancer Conference Day 2: International & National Experts say Immuno-Oncology is new hope for patients

Chandigarh, July 15, 2017
Chandigarh is playing host to a mega conglomeration of Oncologists Pan India & from abroad for the Best of ASCO (American Society of Clinical Oncology) conference at Hyatt Regency. The Conference is being organised in collaboration with Max Cancer Care Centre, Mohali.

On Day 2 of ASCO newest research in the field of oncology was presented and discussed. “The highlight of the day was Immuno-Oncology & a major Indian study on head & neck cancer presented in ASCO held in Chicago recently.” Said Dr. Gautam Goyal, Organising Secretary, Best of ASCO & Consultant Medical Oncologist, Max Hospital, Mohali.

Dr. Sanjeev Aggarwala from USA in his dedicated talk on immune-oncology; beautifully explained the meaning of immune-oncology. “Immuno-oncology therapies activate our immune system, making it able to recognise cancer cells and destroy them. So, they target the body’s immune system, not the tumour itself. They enable the immune system to selectively recognise and attack cancer cells.” Said Dr Aggarwala in his talk.

Dr Bar Jair from Israel said that evidence from the recent research suggests that the effects of immuno-oncology therapies on cancer cells herald hope for patients for a long-term & their quality survival for the very first time. Says Dr. Gautam Goyal, who has been practising the immunotherapy in tricity over the last few years “Furthermore, side-effects associated with immuno-oncology therapies are manageable as compared to many other cancer therapies. These therapies may have a critical positive impact on the patients’ capacity to return to work, and lead a healthy & productive life.”

Precision Oncology was also discussed. Dr. Sachin Gupta, Co-Organising Secretary of the Conference explaining the concept said, “If there are three patients with same diagnosis of breast cancer, with same stage, they may be treated differently with different medicines to get the maximum benefit & minimum side effects. This approach gives a new direction to precision oncology, which means using right therapy as per right biomarker.”

A study - Phase III randomized trial comparing weekly versus three-weekly (W3W) cisplatin in patients receiving chemoradiation for locally advanced head and neck cancer was presented by  Prof. Kumar Prabhash, Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai.

The major Indian contribution to this international study was on use of a drug CISPLTIN in head and neck cancers in India. Multiple schedules of cisplatin are used across world in Head and Neck cancers. As India sees highest number of oral and throat cancers, so this study is very important.

There was an interesting study showing the benefits of Yoga in breast cancer patients. Dr. Sachin Gupta, who is also practising yoga in his patients said that the results are eye openers and lifestyle changes are necessary to fight the dreaded disease.

Dr. Sunandan Sharma explained the role of robotic surgery in cancers. The robotic surgery is coming in a big way in pelvic surgeries, where it is difficult to operate. This helps to decrease the hospital stay, complication and thus the cost of treatment.

The cancer specialists also discussed about care of terminally ill cancer patients and psychological support. Dr. Ritesh Pruthy emphasised the importance of both physical and psychological pain free terminal phase of a patient.

This is vis-à-vis 78,385 arrivals in 2015. 2016 also saw the overall spends from India (only in-country on-tour spends excluding flights and attractions, hotels booked in advance) crossed an astounding 1.2 billion ZAR by the year end. All these statistics indicate that Indian travelers are already showing excitement about destination South Africa.

Chandigarh has been identified as one of the emerging source markets driving tourist traffic to South Africa. It has been listed as one of the 10 next high potential cities outside of the traditional Indian metros. South Africa is keen to keep attracting Chandigarh’s travel enthusiasts and potential is brimming. It is part of the 10 city cluster which makes up 23% of India’s ultra HNHs according to 2016’s Top of the Pyramid survey by Kotak Wealth Management.

South Africa is the perfect destination for the emerging Chandigarh traveler with its variety of distinctive attractions, unforgettable experiences, world-class facilities and excellent infrastructure. South Africans love their food especially their traditional barbeque called Braai which comprises of meats and vegetables and is similar to the tandoor cooking style of Punjab. One of Learn SA 2017’s focus areas was to train travel agents about new destinations such Oudtshoorn, Knysna, Plettenberg Bay, Port Elizabeth and the Drakensberg region beyond the immensely popular Cape Town, Durban, Johannesburg & surrounds and Kruger National Park. These are picturesque areas where travelers can pack in a lot of action into shorter time-spans.

Over 70 international airlines now fly into South Africa. Efforts are on to increase seat capacity on relevant flight routes ex-Chandigarh. Presently, Chandigarh is connected to South African cities by Emirates, Ethiopian Airlines and Etihad Airways which fly via their respective hubs and domestic India connections. Travelers have a variety of airlines, connections and consequently, multiple fare options to choose from. The Rand (ZAR)-Rupee exchange rate has been relatively favorable for the India market. Since the South Africa product quote comes in ZAR and not US dollars, Indian travelers are able to buy more experiences and activities for less money thus, making South value for money destination .

Chandigarh, July 13, 2017: SAEINDIA, a professional Society of Automotive Engineers, today announced the commencement of the 11th edition of the much-awaited BAJA series. Mahindra & Mahindra is the title sponsor and the event is known as Mahindra presents BAJA SAEINDIA 2018.

The redesigned Virtual round of BAJA SAEINDIA will be held on 14th & 15th July, 2017 at Chitkara University, Punjab. The teams have already started feeling the heat of this upcoming Mega Event which is due to be held in Chandigarh. With around 388 teams from various engineering colleges of India, 5 students from each team totalling over 2000 students, the battlefield is set and ready for these students to battle out their ideas.

In these two days event, the registered teams will be scrutinized for their knowledge and capability to participate successfully in the main event. Like last year, all the teams at the Virtual BAJA 2017 must make a presentation on their design, followed by a VIVA or Extempore, which will carry equal weightage in their final selection. The evaluation process will test every participant’s knowledge on Rulebook and General Mechanical and Automotive Engineering. Based on the performance in Virtual BAJA, the teams would be selected for participation in the main event to be held IIT Ropar, Punjab or NATRiP, Pithampur near Indore.

BAJA SAE Series® is an event for the undergraduate engineering students, organized globally by the Society of Automotive Engineers, USA. The event spread like a wildfire since its inception in the year 1976 and broaden its horizon in the countries like USA, Mexico, South Africa, Korea, Brazil & India.

In India, the BAJA SAEINDIA (Society of Automotive Engineers) began its journey in the year 2007 and was launched under the leadership of Dr. Pawan Goenka (during his tenure as SAEINDIA President) and the convenorship of Dr. K.C. Vora. As SAEINDIA ventured on to the unchartered territory of holding a mega-event of this scale, NATRiP came forward to lend a helping hand through an earmarked zone at its upcoming proving grounds- NATRAX, situated at Pithampur, Indore. Similarly, IIT Ropar came forward to lend a helping hand at it Roopnagar location from 2018.

BAJA SAEINDIA tasks the students to conceptualize design, build, test & validate a single-seater four wheeled All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) to take part in series of events spread across a course of 3 days. The finale will be held at the NATRIP facility at Pithampur near Indore, from 24th to 28th Jan, 2018 followed by HR meet on 29th & 30th Jan, 2018 and IIT Ropar from 8th to 11th March, 2018 followed by the HR Meet on 12th March, 2018.

A remarkable feature unique to BAJA SAEINDIA is the adoption of a new theme every year. This year the theme for BAJA 2018 is ‘Ground To Glory’. There is no product name to identify the category with, and this is where our marketing team came up with this interesting thought of a brand name which could represent the product category, something similar to Handycam for mini-camcorders, and Walkman for mini music players. Our objective is to make our brand ‘Wallcam’ a synonymous to CCTV cameras.”
