A four days workshop on evidence based nursing practice was organized by National Institute of Nursing Education, PGIMER, Chandigarh from 5th to 8th September 2018 in order to improve the quality of health care. A total of 51 participants from different parts of Chandigarh, Haryana and Punjab participated in the workshop.
Dr. Arvind Rajwanshi, Dean Research, PGIMER, Chandigarh was the Chief Guest and he inaugurated the event and emphasized that evidence based nursing practice is an important step towards evidence based healthcare practice. He also highlighted that this type of workshop has to be organized more frequently and all nurses in the hospital must undergo this training.
Dr Meenu Singh, Professor, Department of Pediatrics, the Guest of Honour spoke about evolution of evidence based practice and its application in patient care. She highlighted that evidence based practice is the incorporation of best evidence for the patient care while considering the clinical expertise, resources and patients expectations.
Dr. Sandhya Ghai Principal, NINE and the organizing Chairperson introduced the aims & objectives of the Workshop & highlighted that lot of advancements have taken place in Science & technology.
Nurses are the major workforce in healthcare. They are involved in direct patient care, patient education, ward management and coordination of many other health care activities. They collaborate with various departments and facilitate the patient care by taking a leading role in healthcare. In today’s medical world, research is becoming another task that nurses are encouraged to undertake. Exploring research and applying the findings to patient care can help to improve patient outcomes.
Evidence-Based Nursing (EBN) is an important step toward evidence-based healthcare, based on concepts and traditions of evidence-based medicine. It involves identifying research findings and implementing them in nursing practices, to improve the quality of patient care. The goal of EBN is to provide the highest quality and most cost-effective nursing care possible.
The course included talk from experts including Dr. Sourabh Dutta, Dr. Joseph L Mathews, Dr. Kamal Kishore, Dr. Shnakar Prinja, Dr. Bavneet Bharti, Dr. Amarjeet Singh, Dr. Sukhpal Kaur, Dr. Sushma Saini, Dr. Manju Dhandapani and Ms. Lalita Dheer on stepwise approach of implementing evidence based nursing practice. The workshop also included group activities after each session to enhance the skill of delegates on evidence based nursing practice. There was also active discussion on various challenges and the measures to overcome challenges in implementing this highly scientific method of work pattern.
During valedictory function, Dr. Sandhya Ghai distributed certificates and encouraged the participants to take steps towards implementing evidence based nursing practice in their own setting.
