In memory of late Olympian Baldev Singh Sidhu NGO "Sidhu Foundation" launched in Mohali

NGO, Sidhu Foundation will work to preserve the environment and make Mohali a cleanest city of the country - Balbir Sidhu

 

SAS Nagar, August 21 - Inaugurating the Non-Governmental Organization "Sidhu Foundation" established in the memory of late Olympian Baldev Singh Sidhu, former Punjab Health Minister and senior BJP leader Balbir Singh Sidhu said that this organization will work to preserve the day-by-day deteriorating natural environment and will to make Mohali a clean, green and pollution free city.

Mr. Sidhu, while addressing a simple but very effective function held yesterday evening in Sector 80 here, said that keeping the environment pollution-free, using natural resources sparingly, and planting a maximum number of trees is the most important need of the time for a happy life of generations to come. He said, “Due to pollution in the natural environment, earth's temperature is increasing day by day resulting in climate change which is evident in the form of natural disasters.” Mr. Sidhu warned that if we still do not take care of it, then we, especially the future generations, will have to bear the brunt. 

The BJP leader appealed to the residents of Mohali to actively support the campaign launched by "Sidhu Foundation" to keep the city free from single use of plastic. He said that "Sidhu Foundation" will deliver jute bags to every house in Mohali through its volunteers in a few months so that the use of plastic carry bags can be stopped for shopping. He also said that "Sidhu Foundation" will clean the parks, roads, streets, markets, and parking lots and also cut weeds and grass.

Remembering his elder brother late Olympian Baldev Singh Sidhu, Mr. Sidhu said that it was his family's long-standing desire to create an organization that would work in the field of conservation of environment and natural resources with the missionary zeal because this was the dream of the late Baldev Singh Sidhu. On this occasion, he also reminded the people of the work done in Mohali city and area while he was a minister and MLA.

Former Chairman of the Punjab Pollution Control Board and environmental expert Dr. SS Marwaha emphasized on the conservation of the natural environment saying the deterioration in the environment invites natural disasters. He also raised the issue of waste of natural resources, indiscriminate use of plastic, and diminishing of green cover. On this occasion, apart from others, Senior Deputy Mayor of Mohali Municipal Corporation Amrik Singh Somal, former President of Mohali Municipal Council Rajinder Singh Rana and Comrade Hardyal Chand Barbar also spoke.

Colonel Gurkeerat Singh, former Director of the Disabled Military Rehabilitation Centre and colleagues formally inaugurated the "Sidhu Foundation" by cutting the ribbon. On this occasion, a play was also performed by the Environmental Protection Society giving the message of conservation of environment.

Mohali Municipal Corporation Mayor Amarjit Singh Jeeti Sidhu, Ruby Sidhu, Raja Dhillon and a large number of municipal councilors and city residents were present on this occasion.
