National Sports Day, the Chandigarh Commission for Protection of Child Rights (CCPCR)

Chandigarh, 29th August 2023, to mark National Sports Day, the Chandigarh Commission for Protection of Child Rights (CCPCR) organized Sports Meet at Child Care Institute(CCI)-Snehalaya For Boys, Maloya, Chandigarh with the children residing there. 

While speaking on the occasion, Ms. Shipra Bansal, Chairperson, CCPCR, Chandigarh highlighted that this Annual observance, held on August 29th in India, is a tribute to the enduring legacy of Major Dhyan Chand. The day also serves as a reminder for all of us to recall the contributions, determination and extraordinary achievements of the sports persons and their influence in shaping societies. We should adopt healthy life styles and be a part of nationwide ‘FIT INDIA’ movement. She further added that participating in sports will make them able to understand the significance of team work and sportsmanship. 

Sh. Jagdish Manchanda, Additonal Advocate General, Haryana graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. He appreciated the Commission for organizing this event. He further added that sports plays a vital role in an individual’s professional and personal life too. He interacted with participants and motivated them to work hard and achieve their goals.

In his address the Guest of Honour Dr. Ravinder Kumar, Social Activist and environmentalist shared that National Sports Day is also an occasion to raise awareness about the importance of sports and physical activity in our daily lives. Sports can help us stay fit and healthy, reduce stress, and build character. They can also teach us teamwork, discipline, and perseverance. We should away from bad habits and any kind of addiction be it drug abuse, social media, gadets, etc.

Children of Snehalaya participated with full zeal in various sports such as Shuttle Race, Sack Race,100 Metre Sprint, etc. Special Abled children enthusiastically participated in the race. Also to make the CCI children feel like home, birthday celebration of one of the resident child of CCI was done too.

Winners were felicitated with the trophies and sports shoes. Saplings plantation was done by the dignitaries. Mr. Lalit Arora, Resident Manager of Snehalaya For Boys, Chandigarh extended vote of  thanks to all.
Dr. Monica M Singh, Member, CCPCR, Mr. Sanjay Sharma, Member, CCPCR, Mr. Kartar Singh, Legal Consultant, CCPCR, Mr. Arvind k Dhawan, Sr. Assistant, CCPCR, Mrs. Ankita, POCSO Consultant, Mr. Shekhar, Clerk, CCPCR, staff of the Commission and CCI were also present during this training program.
