Sensational Gaganjeet Bhullar Sinks Birdie on the 18th To Win His First-Ever Jeev Milkha Singh Invitational Presented by TAKE
Chandigarh, October 16, 2022: Kapurthala Golfer Gaganjeet Bhullar pulled off a stellar performance in the final round to win his first-ever Jeev Milkha Singh Invitational Trophy. The INR 1.5 Cr Jeev Milkha Singh Invitational 2022 presented by TAKE culminated today at the Chandigarh Golf Club. Gaganjeet (69-65-68-71) who was tied at the top with local boy Karandeep Kocchar till the 18th hole, edged past on his final putt to sink a sensational 10-footer birdie to walk away with the winner’s cheque with an overall score of 15-under 273. The 2020 Champion Karandeep Kocchar (65-70-68-71) of Chandigarh finished as the runner-up with an overall score of 14-under 274 while 2018 winner Chikkarangappa S (65-71-67-72) and Chandigarh’s Akshay Sharma (69-68-71-67) finished at Tied third with identical overall scores of 13-under 275.
Gaganjeet had a bumpy start today bogeying twice on the front nine as birdies eluded him. However, his back nine got him some breathing space with back-to-back birdies on the 11th and 12th holes before hitting a roadblock with another bogey on the 15th hole where he missed a short putt. A birdie immediately after got him back into contention and the 10-time Asian Tour winner did not let this opportunity slip-by as he converted his final shot on the 18th – a 12-footer birdie putt to win his maiden Jeev Milkha Singh Invitational in style, also breaking the tradition of this tournament entering a playoff in its last four editions. Gaganjeet carded one-under 71 in his final round today.
“I played my back nine like a champion today. I did have a shaky start, but my past experience as a golfer and my knowledge of this course together came in handy today. I kept telling myself to not go for the result but play one shot at a time and I think that worked things my way. The birdie on 11th, my first today was probably the turning point in my round. My second birdie on the 16th got me motivated for the final two holes. My experience of the course helped me visualize my shots on the final hole in advance and that’s why sinking in the 12-footer in the final shot was not difficult,” said an elated Gaganjeet Bhullar after his win today.
The 2020 winner of the Jeev Milkha Singh Invitational, Karandeep Kochhar who missed his birdie-putt on the 18th, finished as the runner-up for the second time, his first being in 2018. Karandeep who too shot a 71 today made three birdies on the 2nd, 16th and 17th and two bogeys on the 3rd and 10th holes. Kochhar moved up six spots to be placed fourth on the TATA Steel PGTI Order of Merit.

Gaganjeet Bhullar on the rise, leads in penultimate round of Jeev Milkha Singh Invitational 2022 presented by TAKE
Chikkarangappa, Karandeep Kochhar hot on the leader’s heels
Chandigarh, October 15, 2022: Indian star Gaganjeet Bhullar shot a solid four-under 68 to lead by one shot at 14-under 202 and emerge as top contender after the penultimate round of the INR 1.5 Crore Jeev Milkha Singh Invitational 2022 presented by TAKE being played at the Chandigarh Golf Club.
Bengaluru’s Chikkarangappa S struck a 67 and local favourite Karandeep Kochhar carded an error-free 68 as both players were hot on the leader’s heels in tied second place at a total of 13-under 203 with an exciting finish lying in prospect on Sunday.
Second round leader Abhijit Singh Chadha, another Chandigarh golfer, slipped to fourth place at 11-under 205 after shooting a 72 on Saturday.
Gaganjeet Bhullar (69-65-68), a winner of 11 international titles, gained one spot from his overnight second position as a result of his steady effort that featured five birdies and a bogey. Bhullar sank early birdies on the first and third from a range of eight to 12 feet. After his bogey on the fourth, Gaganjeet created a few opportunities on the front-nine but could only manage a birdie on the sixth as he missed a few short putts.
On the back-nine, Bhullar made a couple of good par saves and birdies on the two par-5s, 13th and 16th, including a great up and down on the latter, to end the day as sole leader.
Bhullar, who originally hails from Kapurthala but is now based in Chandigarh, said, “I struck it well and hit a lot of regulations today but didn’t hole as many putts as the last round. It was a steady round as I just conceded one bogey. My past experiences have taught me that whenever you are in contention over the weekend, minimizing unforced errors gives you an opportunity to climb up the leaderboard. That was the goal today.
“I play this golf course four times a week. In the past two years I have spent a lot of time in Chandigarh. That’s the reason that I feel at home playing here. It’s easy for me to visualize a lot of tee shots here because of the familiarity with the course.”
Chikkarangappa’s (65-71-67) round featured seven birdies and two bogeys and lifted him two spots from his overnight fourth position. He managed to pull himself out of trouble on a few occasions. Chikka, the 2018 champion, extracted birdies in situations where he found the bunker, trees and the rough.
Chikka said, “It was a great start for me with three birdies on the first five holes. My scrambling was good today, I made some amazing up and downs from the bunker and that sort of kept me going and helped build the momentum that finally resulted in a few solid pars. The body is feeling good, I feel well-rested and am ready to put up my best effort in the final round.”
Karandeep Kochhar (65-70-68), the 2020 champion, brought in a card of 68 to move up one spot from his overnight third place.
Kochhar said, “I was quite consistent with my hitting today, making 16 greens in regulation. I was also pleased to be error-free. This gives me a good chance in the last round.”
Among the seven players bunched in tied fifth at a total of eight-under 208, were Chandigarh-based golfers Akshay Sharma and Amrit Lal as well as prominent names Rahil Gangjee, Rashid Khan and Khalin Joshi.
Among the other big names, Jyoti Randhawa was tied 13th at six-under 210 while Ajeetesh Sandhu and Udayan Mane were both tied 28th at four-under 212.
The two amateurs who made the cut, local golfer Brijesh Kumar and Bengaluru’s Aryan Roopa Anand, were both tied 52nd at three-over 219.
