Punjab Plastic Waste Management Society (PPWMS) organized “Awareness Workshop for rag-pickers / waste collectors on Plastic Waste Collection, Segregation and Sanitation” at Macchiwara, Ludhiana Municipal Council, Punjab.
The event was organized by Punjab Plastic Waste Management Society (PPWMS) and Indian Pollution Control Association (IPCA), which is implementing agency of PPWMS. Dr. Reena Chadha delivered the workshop and engaged participants in various games and activities based on the subject along with Mr. Amandeep. More than 50 Waste collectors and officials of MC participated in the programme, and were distributed safety kits including safety jackets, gloves, masks, soaps pamphlets and refreshments during the event, at Office of Macchiwara, Ludhiana Macchiwara, Ludhiana Municipal Council.
All the officials of Macchiwara, Ludhiana Municipal Council namely Mr. Gurpal Singh (Executive Officer), Mrs. Navreet Kaur ( Committee facilitator ), Mr. Sukhdev Singh, (Sanitary Inspector) and all officials & sanitation workers from Council, Macchiwara District, Ludhiana, Punjab, participated and supported the event.
Mr. Rajeev Shrivastava, Secretary, PPWMS informed that "items distributed in the safety kit have many preventive health benefits for waste collectors. These items if used efficiently go a long way to reduce health hazards to waste collection workers, and ensure sustainable action towards management of plastic waste, while ensuring their health/ sanitation during waste collection, as saviors of environment”. Through these programmes Punjab Plastic Waste Management Society (PPWMS) has been able to network with more than 600 waste collectors in the region.
All waste workers of the council actively participated in the Cleanliness Drive and cleared the area within an hour.
