More than 100 journalists attend special CPR session organised by Fortis Mohali at Chandigarh Press Club
Chandigarh, September 30, 2023: Fortis Hospital Mohali in collaboration with Chandigarh Press Club, Sector 27, held a special Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Session for more than 100 members on the club premises here today. Aimed at addressing the recent surge in heart attacks among young individuals, the workshop was designed to equip participants with essential skills to respond effectively to health-related emergencies.
The workshop was conducted by Dr RK Jaswal, Head of Department and Director of Cardiology and Director - Cathlabs, Fortis Hospital Mohali. The participants were also given free health vouchers, which can be availed for cardiac tests at Fortis Mohali.
BLS is a practical life-saving technique that combines CPR, first aid, and other critical skills necessary to sustain life during emergencies such as heart attacks. During the workshop, media personnel were provided hands-on training in CPR, emphasizing on the significance of a quick and effective CPR. Practical demonstration was also given to interested individuals on how to identify the warning signs, promptly assess the situation, and provide immediate care until professional medical assistance is available. An insightful health talk on the importance of early recognition and intervention during a heart attack or cardiac emergency was also delivered by Dr Jaswal.
“Close to 7.5 lakh people who die due to sudden cardiac death in the country can be saved if people around know hands-only CPR. Since most of these sudden attacks occur outside the hospital, it becomes our duty as health providers to make the society CPR Smart,” said Dr RK Jaswal. CPR from a bystander can increase the chances of survival, and that’s why Fortis aims to make the Tricity CPR-Smart via our ‘Hands on Heart Club’, he added.
There are a lot of misconceptions about cardiac health, said Dr Arun Kumar, founder-member of Fortis Hands on Heart Club, an initiative that is aimed at raising awareness about Basic Life Support (BLS) and First Aid techniques in the society, thus making each person a potential lifesaver. He added, “For instance, many think that heart attack and cardiac arrest is the same thing. But the truth is that cardiac arrest is not just another heart attack. A sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) occurs when the heart stops beating, abruptly and without warning. If this happens, blood stops flowing to the brain and other vital organs. In addition, if the heartbeat is not restored with an electrical shock immediately, death follows within minutes. Whereas, a heart attack is a condition which results in permanent damage to the heart muscle. It happens when the flow of oxygen-rich blood to a section of heart muscle suddenly becomes blocked and the heart can't get enough oxygen.”

Gladiators blank Golf Masters at Havells Lloyd CGL
Gladiator team Record 7/0 win
Chandigarh, September 26: The Havells Lloyd CGL 2023 began with a bang with the Homeland Chandigarh Gladiators blanking Golf Masters 7-0 recording the first shutout in the history of the league on a vibrant opening day here at the Chandigarh Golf Club. In the opening match, Swinging Samurai made a fast start to record a quite impressive 5-2 win against the Sultans of Swing.
Captain’s 18 also began their campaign with a 5-2 win over Sleepy Owl Chargers in a close affair even though the scoreline may suggest otherwise. In the last match of the day, Moksha Royals beat the Punjab Aces 4-3 in a tense finish with five of the seven games decided on either the last or the penultimate hole.
The Gladiators began on the front foot with captain Saurabh Singh Mangat leading the way as he closed out a 4&2 win in his singles game. The fourball games is where the Gladiators found their groove with their pairs winning big and finishing their games early. Col. Narjit Singh & Dr. Vinninder Singh Sachdev scored a 7&6 victory in the anchor game, closing out a perfect day for last year’s quarter finalists. Col PS Randhawa & KBS Katoch also posted a 6&4 win while their two other pairs recorded 5&4 wins. With such a scoreline, the Gladiators became the first team to post a perfect match score and go straight to the top of the table and will expect to stay there going forward.
The Samurai & Captain’s 18 took largely similar routes to their 5-2 victories. Col Parminderjit Singh & Sehaj Bir Singh Sidhu scored the biggest win for the Samurai over the Sultans of Swing while Bhupinder Singh Mundh & RS Mann matched the top winning margin of the day with a 7&6 win for Captain’s 18. Sleepy Owl Chargers were in it for longer than the scoreline suggests but couldn’t turn clutch moments in their favour.
The Moksha Royals pooled in all their reserves to capture 4 important points as last year’s runners up Punjab Aces began the Havells Lloyd CGL on a disappointing note. Team captain Darvesh Kumar combined with Kulwant Singh Bhullar to card a 3&1 win and watched two of their pairs win on the final hole including the anchor game.
Results - 26th September 2023:
Sultans of Swing 2-5 Swinging Samurai
Homeland Chandigarh Gladiators 7-0 Golf Masters
