UNITED SIKHS initiates Awareness Campaign and launches Food Bank in response to COVID-19

Mohali / Chandigarh, March 26,2020:

UNITED SIKHS has launched an Awareness Campaign and Food Bank in response to COVID 19 crisis. The organization has been sanitizing ATMs and banks in Chandigarh and Mohali. Masks and sanitizers were also distributed in Punjab, Faridabad, Delhi and Ambala. An Awareness campaign drive was initiated in Delhi, Punjab and Faridabad, while food is being distributed to the needy around the world.

The food is made available to the needy even at the door step of the ones who are unable to move out. The organization ensures distribution of over the counter (OTC) medicines, basic food supplies and hot meals (langar). This facility is mainly provided to the international students, elderly people of over 65 years of age, living alone and are vulnerable. Single  mothers, disabled and isolated people of the lower income group are also taken care.

Hardayal Singh, UNITED SIKHS Director (USA), said, “UNITED SIKHS delivers free food to the people in New York City, one of the worst Corona affected cities in the USA. Strict food hygiene practices are observed during the preparation of food by the volunteers using gloves, masks and the maintaining social distance.”
UNITED SIKHS is an UN-affiliated, international non-profit, non-governmental, humanitarian relief, human development and advocacy organization, registered in 11 countries, including USA, Canada, UK, Australia and India.

Parvinder Singh, UNITED SIKHS Director said, “The organization in India is registered in Punjab under the Societies Registration Act. We have been conducting projects in order to transform, alleviate, educate and protect the lives of underprivileged, individuals and minority communities impacted by disasters, natural or man-made, suffering from hunger, illiteracy, diseases, or from violation of civil and human-rights into informed and vibrant members of society by fostering sustainable programs regardless of color, race, religion or creed.”

The projects are being conducted under the three main Directorates include, Community Empowerment and Education Division (CEED) for supporting premium education to the under-privileged for empowerment of women and youth, Humanitarian Aid – under which humanitarian aid is provided during the time of disasters to the survivors and International Civil and Human Rights Advocacy, through which civil and human rights of minorities and marginalized groups are protected.

The Directors in India include Pritam Singh, Parvinder Singh, Jasmeet Singh and Mohinder Jit Singh. Singer and actor Gurpreet Singh Ghuggi is also part of the India operations.
