The Rural Livelihood Summit 2022Enhancing Sustainable Livelihood



CHANDIGARH:Grant Thornton Bharat LLP in association with Punjab State chapter of  PHD Chamber organized Punjab Rural Livelihood Summit 2022 at PHD House, Chandigarh on 16, November 2022 to focus on disseminating knowledge and enabling an ecosystem for Rural-based Livelihoods, This summit included more than 200 delegates including stakeholders such as policymakers from the State Governments, institutions, input-credit-insurance-markets providers, members of FPOs and SHGs to share their views and experiences.

Chief Guest at the Session Shri. Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal, Hon’ble Cabinet Minister for Agriculture and Rural Development, Government of Punjab expressed his appreciation for PHD Chamber & GT Bharat for taking the initiative for uplifting and promoting the rural women entrepreneurs, self-help groups and FPOs. Hon’ble Minister said that the Agriculture sector is one of the key focus areas of the Government. He mentioned that women represent 50% of the total workforce in Punjab. He summed up saying that strengthening the women entrepreneurs in agriculture sector would lead to the Nations’s progress. He inaugurated the event and unveiled the book “Scope of silage industry in Punjab.”  

Prof. V. Padmanand, Senior Partner, Grant Thornton Bharat LLP mentioned that the key focus areas this initiative by GT Bharat LLP is to uplift Livelihood, Artisans and Self-Help Groups and increase income of rural women entrepreneurs which would be done through facilitating market & industry linkages and skilling.

Arshdeep Singh Thind, I.A.S, Secretary, Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Government of Punjab during his address pointed that one of the major challenges being faced today is of disguised unemployment that refers the type of employment having no value addition through their work towards the society or the growth of the Nation. He further mentioned that increasing productivity should be the need of the hour in order to find the way to progress.

Devinder Pal Singh Kharbanda, IAS, Director, Technical Education & Industrial Training, Government of Punjab during his address said that the time has come when the youth should be encouraged towards self entrepreneurship and become self sufficient in becoming job givers than job takers.

Amit Kumar, IAS, Joint Development Commissioner, Integrated Development Government of Punjab* highlighted the importance of women in family for her role in earning livelihood for family. He informed that the Department of Rural Development is taking continuing steps to upskill the self help groups & women entrepreneurs
