ITC’s Mangaldeep Agarbatti joins hand with Shrine Board

Chandigarh. On the cusp of this year’s auspicious Navaratras, ITC’s Agarbatti brand Mangaldeep Treya has joined hands with Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, Jammu & Kashmir to offer special langar seva to innumerable devotees of the Mata Vaishno Devi Temple during the 9-day of the Navaratras, which witnesses one of the largest gathering of pilgrims.

Mangaldeep’s popular agarbatti variant ‘Mangaldeep Treya’ will also be contributing for the “Shatchandi Maha Yagna” conducted during the Navaratras, at the devout temple.

ITC’s Mangaldeep has also committed to extend its support to the ‘Mata Vaishnodevi Langar Seva’ not only for this Navaratri but for the two Navaratri periods in a year.
In 2018, the Vaishno Devi Temple received over 85-lakh ‘Yatris’. Each year, the temple witnesses a footfall of over 3-lakh pilgrims during the Navaratras alone.

Speaking on this occasion, Mr. Ravi Rayavaram, Chief Executive, ITC’s Agarbatti Business said “We at ITC Mangaldeep are deeply grateful to the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board for giving us the opportunity to support these activities and play an enabling role in people’s lives in their pursuit of devotion.”

Mr. Simrandeep Singh, CEO of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, Jammu & Kashmir said, “We are extremely pleased about Mangaldeep's support for the  Shatchandi Yagna and Langar Seva. This will help us in enhancing the devotees experience during their visit to the shrine”.

Mangaldeep has also proposed to spearhead a unique initiative called the ‘Mangaldeep Green Temple’ at the Shri Vaishnodevi Temple, which will involve implementation of requisite infrastructure to convert organic temple offerings and Langar leftovers into bio-gas. The biogas generated from the initiative will have the capacity to provide fuel to ‘Bhojonalay kitchens’ of the temple.

In line with ITC’s philosophy of ‘Sab Saath Badhein’ to drive economic, social and environmental capital, Mangaldeep has been working with popular temples in the country to convert organic offerings at their premises into biogas or compost. The “Mangaldeep Green Temple” initiative through ITC’s Mission Sunehra Kal program, has already been installed at 4 temples in Tamil Nadu.

100 docs attend CME at IMA Chandigarh

Chandigarh, September 30: As many 100 doctors from tricity attended a CME on World Heart Day at IMA here last night. The CME was organised by IMA in association of Ojas Super Speciality Hospital, Panchkula.
In CME, Dr Virendar Sarwal head- cardiovascular & thoracic at Ojas talked about new frontiers in cardiac Surgery’ whereas Dr Anurag Sharma, Director Cardiology spoke about ‘treatment of aortic stenosis , breaking the barrier : TAVR’
Dr Sarwal said that it is well proven that surgery is the only long-term solution for heart diseases and increases the survival. Thus it should be opted by most of the patients as first line of treatment without any fears.
He dwelled on the concept of minimal invasive surgery to give these patients more comfort during surgery by making it less stressful, less pain less stay in ICU and hospital and less requirement of blood products. This enable the patient to join work within 2-week instead of 6-week with conventional surgery as patients are discharged in 4 days after minimally invasive surgery, he remarked.
He further informed that these surgeries are done for bypass or valve replacements through small incisions on left or right side of chest which are hardly 4-5 inches in length. They are cosmetically very helpful specially in females as they are covered by the breast and clothing and no midline scar is visible in the patients. So it gives lot of confidence to patient and in females gives them lot of benefit socially especially those who need to get married after surgery, he asserted.
Dr Anurag said that new technique of TAVI for replacing the aortic valve with catheter-based device is again no way comparable to surgical replacement of the valve as TAVI is 5-8 times more costlier has limited application and even in his experience results with surgical replacements are better than this new technique.
Surgical replacement costs about 5 lakhs with same type of tissue valve whereas TAVI costs Rs. 16-25 lakhs which few Indian can afford and is not even approved by any insurance or govt packages, he pointed out.

HONEST TO GOD UNBIASED, OBJECTIVE & IRREVERENT

Dr. Sandeep Goyal, today launched his fifth book, Honest to God in city. The book launch was followed by an event attended by the city’s elite, where the book was released by Subodh K. Jaiswal, IPS, Director General of Police, Maharashtra. The Foreword of the book too has been written by Mr. Jaiswal when he was Commissioner of Police, Mumbai earlier in the year. Mr. Dinkar Gupta, Director General of Police, Punjab was the guest of honour at the book launch.
The book is a compilation of 78 essays on advertising and branding, on corporate and marketing strategy, and on select celebrities - analysed as ‘human brands’.
The genesis of the book lies in a column that Dr. Goyal started writing for Business India magazine four years ago. The column too is titled Honest to God. The column has become very famous and well regarded amongst business readers for being frank, forthright and very very candid in the opinions that Dr. Goyal expresses across a broad spectrum of subjects. The book is an edited compilation of these columns, co-published by Business India and Crossword.
“I have known Dr. Goyal, the author, for nearly 40 years now from the time I too was a student in this city. Dr. Goyal has always had strong opinions, but the good thing is he expresses them too fearlessly and eloquently. That is what makes his book Honest to God so readable, absorbing and interesting”, said Mr. Jaiswal.
Dr. Goyal said that as a columnist speaking the truth and writing about incidents without prejudice or favour is not always possible because each one of us is influenced by what we read, what we imbibe and what we then process in our minds which then has a bearing on the output in a column or a blog.
The author’s Chandigarh connection
Dr. Goyal is an alumnus of St. John’s School. He then studied for his B.A. Honours in English Literature at D.A.V. College, Chandigarh, and topped the Panjab University, winning a Gold Medal.
Goyal has in recent years revived his connect to The City Beautiful. He sponsors the prestigious Ranvijay Singh Award at St. John’s in the memory of an old schoolmate. But more importantly, last year, he created at St. John’s an Endowment of Rs. 1 crore, which received widespread media attention.
Goyal has also taken up the renovation and redesign of the Matka Chowk in Chandigarh. He is funding a big installation at the Chowk which will become a landmark of the city in times to come.

Earlier books by the author
Dr. Goyal’s first book Dum Dum Bullet was published by Penguin Books in 2004. It is an anecdotal account of Goyal’s first two decades in the mad mad world of advertising. It covers in great detail the creation and launch of brand Airtel; the aggressive marketing of Maruti as global competitors entered India in the 90s; his handling of brands like Colgate, Citibank, Eveready, Taj Hotels, Tata and even entrepreneurial homespun ones like Moov, Rasna and more.
Goyal’s second book You’re Hired, co-authored with his daughter Carol, was released in 2012 and is a primer for first time jobbers.
2014 saw the launch of Konjo – The Fighting Spirit. Published by Harper Collins, the book chronicles the journey of the author as a highly successful entrepreneur, especially his handling of Japanese brands like Toyota, Honda, Canon, Panasonic, Sony, Daikin and others.
Earlier this year, Blogbuster was released by Haymarket’s Campaign and Crossword. The book is a contemporary and current analysis of India’s changing brandscape with detailed essays on  many marketing issues and changing consumer behaviour.

The author on the book
Speaking about Honest to God, the author, Dr. Sandeep Goyal reiterated, “I spend hours, sometimes days researching a subject. I try to form an independent view. I write with zero bias. But when I write, I write with purpose, I write with passion. Marketing or communication may seem to be drab commercial subjects but believe me there is a lot of emotion that drives brands and brand-owners. I try to capture those emotions in most of what I write. Honest to God has consistently been over the past few years an honest and unrelenting mirror to all that happens in Corporate India”.

No More Shedding Tears by Onions

City Startup’s AlooPyaz App promises to sell onions and potatoes cheaper than market rates

Chandigarh, September 25, 2019: POT Agritech Private Limited, India’s first Agritech Startup in Onion and potato supply chain industry with a vision to organize the $ 16 billion unorganized onion and potato industry in India, launched a unique mobile app which promises to do away with 6-7 middlemen thus assuring good quality product at less than market prices.

The app was launched by Shri. Ajit Balaji Joshi, IAS, Director General, Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare, former Deputy Commissioner, Chandigarh and Smt. Nazuk Kumar, IAS, Administrator, Agriculture Marketing Board, UT at Chandigarh Press Club here. It is available both on iOS App Store and Android Play Store.

The brainchild was conceptualized by two youngsters Sudarshan Patel, an alumni of Punjab Engineering College (PEC), having an experience in corporate, F&V industry and Vinod Kashyap who has an experience of working in corporates like  Walmart and Big Basket.

Sharing the success story, Sudarshan Patel, Co-Founder, AlooPyaz App said, he had in 2014 come up with a startup SabKuchFresh.com which got acquired by Paytm backed by Jugnoo in 2016. He said that Our Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has been encouraging startups through Startup India campaign and the aim behind coming up with Aloo Pyaz is to check price fluctuation in the market which is very high as of now. Thus farmers & consumers both are at loss.

“The company procure stocks direct from farmers whereas presently there are 7 to 8 middlemen between the farmer and customer who dominate the market, which will be done away with through this App. While the original concept is B2B and will primarily cater to the demand of retailers, hotels, restaurants, caterers, canteens, departmental stores, modern trade, whole sellers and super markets", Patel said.

"Also end consumers will be directly benefit as they can buy 1 kg premium packing of Onion & Potato from neighborhood kiryana / supermarket stores at prices cheaper than local market”, Patel said.

Vinod Kashyap, Co-Founder, AlooPyaz App, said, " A special Navratra offer, Potato bags will be available at the rate of Rs 5 per kg whereas the current market price is Rs.14-15 per kg. While for onions produce will be obtained directly from Nashik farmers, for potatoes, supply will come from farmers in Jalandhar, Agra and Himachal Pradesh. Tricity customers can place orders from today onwards, while after four months Delhi will be launched and in one year, 15 to 20 cities will be covered.”

Kashyap said, the concept will directly benefit the farmers as they don’t need to store or pack their produce and same day digital payment will be made to them. Shortly, we plans to introduce forecasting facility for farmers, world's best seeds would be given to farmers. Thereby farmers can sell complete harvest to our company.
