VHS Mohali’s Montessori Lower Elementary Children Present ‘The Lion King’

Mohali, March 10, 2025: The Montessori Lower Elementary children from Vivek High School (VHS) Mohali, in their annual production, showcased the enchanting world of the African Savanna in a mesmerising spectacle for all ages, the musical - ‘The Lion King’. The play was an adaptation of the 1994 Disney film, originally premiered on Broadway in 1997. The musical play showcased 103 actors, aged between 8-9 years and was directed by Mr. Vikramjeet Singh Mamik, Director of VHS, Mohali.

The musical presented the tale of ‘Simba’, a young lion prince who embarks on an epic journey of self-discovery and redemption.

Mr. Vikramjeet Singh Mamik, congratulated the students who played different characters in the immaculately staged show. “The staging brought the African Savanna to life, making it an engaging experience for both performers and the audience,” said Mr. Mamik.

Dr Amarjyoti Chawla, Principal, VHS, Mohali shared that the staging of the play was done perfectly by the characters. “We are so proud of the young performers who portrayed their characters with enthusiasm and creativity,” said Dr Amarjyoti Chawla.

Ms. Meenakshi Madaan, the Head of Junior School at VHS, Mohali praised the children and appreciated their level of commitment and dedication. “The idea behind encouraging the children to participate in the play was to help them gain confidence and performance skills. The play also was instrumental in the children learning valuable lessons about teamwork, empathy and the importance of facing one's fears,” said Ms. Meenakshi Madaan.

The musical stage play showcased the journey of ‘Simba’ well. The play depicted how after the tragic death of his father, Mufasa, ‘Simba’ flees his kingdom –the ‘Pride Lands’, feeling responsible for his father's demise. Along the way, he encounters many vibrant characters, together they help ‘Simba’ find his inner courage and embrace his destiny as the rightful king of the ‘Pride Lands’.

The sets representing Sub-Saharan Africa were inventive and designed to create multiple landscapes and environments. They transported the audience to a variety of different locations - including Pride Rock, the grasslands, the Elephant Graveyard, the gorge where a stampede had occurred in the story and the tale’s iconic ‘Hakuna Matata’ jungle.

The opening number 'The Circle of Life’ right till the song 'Hakuna Matata’ excellently showed the transition of ‘Simba’ from a Youngster to an Adult. These memorable songs by the talented choir, helped convey the emotional depth of the story. The music team of Seyiekhrienyu Usou and Keshav Sunwar used different notes of instruments to create the mood and atmosphere of a jungle through use of sounds of a jungle’s natural surroundings.

The little actors’ performance and the play’s magnificent production values, left the audience in awe.
