For an artist who wears multiple hats, Akull has not only sung and composed but also directed the music video of Bahana as Diffuni (Akull x Ankit Jayn).

Staying true to his style, Akull captures his uni

que soundscape along with MellowD’s beautiful lyrics encapsulating the perfect lockdown emotion.

As the video unfolds, it takes you through a visual and emotional journey of the couple from happier times together and to a point where Akull is left reminiscing old memories waiting to be by his lover, Livia (who was also featured in ‘I Love You’). His restlessness and craving to see his lover during the lockdown urges him to write & dedicate this song to her in an age where everything is excessive. As the song ends, the video hints at a third part to the series to be released soon.

It’s great to see an artist push the envelope with his song writing and storytelling with a refreshing visual presentation to engage audiences.Bahana is a song that will for sure resonate with the audience through its theme of love and longing especially in these COVID times.

Talking about Bahana, Akull stated “Bahana is yet another special song to me, after the kind of response I received for I Love You last year, I was very certain on creating a Part 2 of the story withLiviasince everyone appreciated our chemistry. We are all currently living in a very interesting time and I thought this would be a perfect time to work on Bahana - Part 2 of the story & to give fans a refreshing take on what a lot of lovers must be experiencing. Together with Mellow D I was able to work on quickly completing the song to best highlight people’s emotions and with Ankit Jayn as Diffuni we shot and directed the video completely under lockdown, was surely challenging but loved the process. My team at VYRL Originals and I super confident about this one and I hope everyone enjoys and gives the song all the love & support as they have given me always.”

Commenting about the track, Vinit Thakkar, COO, Universal Music India & South Asia, stated, “Akull is a phenomenal singer-songwriter and music producer. With massive hits like 'Laal Bindi', 'I Love You' & ‘Laal Chunariya’ under his belt, he is set to enthrall his fans yet again with ‘Bahana’. His unique sound has struck a chord with fans all over the country & with this release he has reinvented himself to showcase a very different yet endearing side to his music. I am looking forward to 'Bahana’ adding another feather to Akull’s cap.”

In recent years, India has witnessed a phenomenal growth in the consumption of regional language music, thanks in part to the penetration of smart phones, access to hi-speed, low cost internet and proliferation of streaming platforms. This has seen the popularity of Punjabi language music increasing rapidly across India and South-Asia, and throughout the global Indian diaspora (the world’s largest at 17.5 million people), finding dedicated new audiences in the U.S., U.K., Canada and Australia.

This agreement strengthens both organizations position at the forefront of India’s blossoming non-film music market. Over the past three years, UMI has led the evolution of domestic Indian music with a series of strategic label launches (VYRL Originals, Mass Appeal India), combined with increased A&R focus in original Indian non-film music and artist development.
