Sushma group salutes to the republic with Zirakpur flying high 3
Chandigarh: Sushma Group, major realty player of Punjab celebrated India's 71st Republic day on 25th January with fervour and lot of enthusiasm in Zirakpur. After the overwhelming response of the past two seasons of celebration, this year the group saluted to the republic of India with third season of its mega kite flying event that took place at Sushma Empiria located on PR-7, Airport Ring Road in Zirakpur.
The event was organised to revive the patriotic feelings and to promote the country's cultural diversity. The whole premise was caught up in the spirit of patriotism with tricolor decoration and patriotic songs playing. The day was commemorated by flying tri-coloured kites of different shapes and sizes which soon filled the whole sky with beautiful saffron, white and green colours, the colours reflecting unity, strength and lively culture of India. Around 300 people from across Tricity became the part of this grand kite flying event.

NGO to hold blood donation camp for the Indian Army
Chandigarh, A blood donation camp 'Shaurya Blood Connect With Indian Army' will be organized by a city-based NGO 'I Am Still Human' (IASH) in with PCL Gateway and DLF DT Mall, for the welfare of the Indian Army personnel.
The details of the camp were shared by Vivek Mehra, Founder of 'I Am Still Human' and the 'Shaurya' campaign, who was accompanied by Jagjit Singh Majha, MD, PCL Gateway & a Philanthropist, Col(Retd.) Jarnail Singh, Deputy Director, Defence Services Welfare, Punjab and Siddharth Prakash, Mall Head, DLF City Centre during a press meet held at Press Club, Sector 27 here.
The 9th Edition of Shaurya Blood Connect With Indian Army will be held from 10:30 am to 3 pm on January 24, (Friday) at DLF City Centre Mall, IT Park, Chandigarh. The blood donation camp will be conducted by a medical team of Command Hospital, Western Command, Chandimandir. A motivational session will also be held by Lt. Gen. (Retd) K.J Singh, PVSM, AVSM**, Former GOC-in-Chief, Western Command and Lily Bawa, Veerangnashri Awardee. Lily Bawa is wife of Late. Lt. Col. I.B.S Bawa, MVC and a proud mother of a gallantry awardee Army Officer. The motivational session will start at 1:30 pm on January 24.
While addressing the gathering, Vivek Mehra said, “The blood donation camp is a small contribution and a way to pay an ode to the Indian Armed forces, who lay down their lives defending India without thinking even once. This will be a great opportunity for the country to create a 'Blood Bond' with our brothers in uniform and contribute directly for the welfare of our beloved Indian Army. The blood will only be used for the welfare of jawans, officers, veterans and their dependents."
He emphasized that though the government has created several mediums to contribute for the welfare of armed forces, due to a lack of awareness among civilians, they are not able to offer their support to the Indian Armed Forces.
Jagjit Singh Majha, MD, PCL Gateway and a Philanthropist said, “We are supporting this blood donation camp under our corporate social responsibility. The camp is a wonderful opportunity for all the people to pay gratitude to our real heroes, who are round the clock doing their duty at the borders.”
Col(Retd.) Jarnail Singh, Deputy Director, Defence Services Welfare Punjab said, "Punjab's Defence Services Welfare department is happy to be collaborating with this noble initiative. I congratulate NGO 'I am Still Human' to have undertaken campaign 'Shaurya' under which it is organising many activities for welfare of the Indian Army. The blood donation camp is a need of the hour as this precious gift of life is much in need by the Indian Army." Col Singh also enumerated various welfare measures being taken by the Punjab government for serving as well as retired army personnel of Punjab.
The camp will witness an impressive Army theme décor. An army band will also be in attendance. It is noteworthy that 'I Am Still Human' under the 'Shaurya' campaign before the upcoming blood donation camp has already successfully organised 8 camps at different places including capital New Delhi. IASH took out a bike rally from Chandigarh to Mumbai in memory of the brave-hearts martyred in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack. What's more under ‘Shaurya Ye Diwali Veer Pariwaar Ke Saath' the IASH volunteers took out a bike rally from Chandigarh to Jabalpur to pay tribute to children of Indian Army martyrs.

India the 3rd most obese country in the world and Obesity is a leading cause of liver damage, besides Alcohol
Chandigarh,15th Jan 2020: ToCreate awareness on “Obesity & its Health Hazards”a team of Doctors from Panchkula, addressed the media person today. Speaking on the occasion DrRajan Mittal, Consultant Gastroenterology, Interventional Endoscopy, Bariatric endoscopist said that “Obesity is an epidemic and India is right in the middle of a fat explosion.”
DrRajan shared that 73% of urban Indians are obese, that is 3 out of 4 people and a recent Lancet report quotes that 34% of India’s population is insufficiently active. What is even more alarming is that millions of youngsters and millennials are battling medical conditions and complications that arise from obesity - such as type-2 diabetes mellitus, Obstructive sleep apnea, Osteoarthritis, Low self-esteem, Depression, Infertility, Hernias, Cancers and Heart Failure.. Not to forget, the implications of the incalculable emotional cost attached to it. Obesity has led to an immense increase in the mortality rates across the nation – nearly reducing life expectancy by 9 years in women and 12 years in men.

Chandigarh, January 15: The mountain biking club, Riders of the Storm (ROS) conducted its yearly grand finale of MTB Cross Country Race in Shivalik foothills on the outskirts of the tricity.
The grand finale was dedicated to the memory of the club’s founder Amit Chopra, who died due to cancer in 2016. Mona Chopra the wife of late and her son flagged-off the race.
The finale attracts the best talent from the entire country riders from Bir Billing, Shimla, New Delhi, Manali, Bangalore, Dehradun, Haldwani besides riders from Team Hero, Team Cannondale, Scott Sports India, Team Btwin etc.
The four categories carried total prizes worth Rs. 2.5 lakhs. The circuit for the race was a 15.5-km loop consisting of all elements of a MTB Cross Country Race including single track trail, mountain climbs, mountain descents, jeep off-road tracks, tarmac and riverbed.
The 12 kids also participated in kids’ loops which was organized first time by club.
The kids between the age of 6-yr to 12-yr participated in this race through mountainous terrain as a part of clubs’ commitment to promote the sport and identifying local talent at the earliest.
Indus hospital was the medical partner and took care of participants’ injuries and healing during the course.
Balram Kaleka one of the members of the club since it's inception and organizer of grand finale said that we are happy to see mountain biking getting popular in the tricity.

NCTOH 2020 Calendar release during Organising committee meeting
Department of Community Medicine & Public Health held the third organising committee to plan and review the progress updates for the upcoming 5th National Conference for Tobacco or Health (NCTOH) 2020. The meeting was organised under the chairmanship of Prof. Amarjeet Singh, HoD Department of Community Medicine &School of Public Health. The 5th National Conference is scheduled to be held at Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh from 25th to 27th September 2020.
While welcoming the members of organising committee, Prof Amarjeet Singh said that we are looking forward to make the conference unique than the previous held conference. Dr Sonu Goel, Organising Secretary NCTOH, briefed the committee regarding the conference. He said that over 800 delegates from across the country are expected to take part in the conference.
Apart from Dr Goel, Dr Ravindra Khaiwal, Additional Prof, PGIMER; Dr Mahesh Devnani, Assiciate Prof, PGIMER; Dr Manoj K Sharma, Asst. Prof, Centre of Public Health, PU; Dr Arpit Gupta, Asst Prof, OHSC, PGIMER; Dr Rakesh Gupta, DHS Punjab; Dr Sushma Kumari; lecturer, NINE, PGIMER, Mr Rajeev Choudhary, Project Coordinator, PGIMER attended the organising committee meeting.
After the meeting, the organising committee launched the Annual Calendar 2020 for the promotion of NCTOH. Chandigarh has already made its presence on global map by being first ‘Smoke Free City’ of the country. The event is expected to consolidate the efforts in this direction and to maintain the status of Chandigarh as ‘smoke free city’.
The three-day event will focus on diverse public health issues and challenges in tobacco control at the national and sub-national level along with the context-specific solutions for their replication towards achieving tobacco free environment.
The conference format will include plenary sessions, panel discussions, symposia, oral presentation, poster discussions, and workshops on many aspects of tobacco control.
